Scholarships

 By Jim Woolwine

The National Capital Area Chapter (NCAC) of the West Virginia Alumni Association has contributed more than $50,000 to the West Virginia University Foundation, Inc., to fund endowed scholarships for students from the Washington, DC area.  The scholarships honor Col. John F. Nicholas, Jr., WVU Class of 1941, who, along with his wife Lucy, worked tirelessly to promote the University and University athletics in this area.  John would not only be amazed at the size of the scholarship fund that was created in his name but if he were still alive he would be absolutely stunned by the NCAC’s current program of outreach activities and, of course, by our successful Northern Virginia Chapter of the Mountaineer Parents’ Club.
